Riverfront Park Skate Ribbon

The Skate Ribbon, a replacement for the ice rink built in 1978, integrates skating and the park environment with passages through varying landscape experiences. Specific responsibilities included the design of hardscapes for the project outside of the ice ribbon; redevelopment of pedestrian circulation elements within and around the ribbon project; irrigation, landscape, and site furnishings design; presentations to various city officials; cost estimating; and services during bidding and construction. The Ribbon is quickly becoming one of Spokane’s iconic experiences, with thousands of skaters enjoying the multi-use space each winter.  Summer activities continue to evolve as the reconstruction of Riverfront Park is nearing completion. SPVV is currently working on the next addition to Riverfront Park, the West Havermale project, that will include an inclusive playground, reconstructed picnic shelter, and a restored Theme Stream.
