Avista Stadium is a special project and we’re grateful to be part of it—from attending games with our families to attending them as a whole office, we have a lot of memories watching @spokaneindiansbaseball & are so happy to be on the team working to ensure our community gets to keep making those memories for years to come. ⚾️

As 2023 winds down and 2024 pokes its head around the corner, we're looking back on this year with a lot of gratitude. We saw several special projects completed and opened, started work on some new things we're really excited about, and witnessed Ken bowling in a T. rex costume!

Thank you so much to all our collaborators, team members, and clients—we look forward to another year of working together!

It’s not every day that somebody points out how

It’s not every day that somebody points out how your hardscape design reminds them of a @metallica album cover—but today is that day! Shoutout to @d_rock.fpv for noticing this (admittedly unintentional) Easter egg in the Pasco High School #3 plans, and to the engineer who shared it with us (thanks, Paul!). Another serendipitous layer to this coincidence? With the new high school and the bond that made it possible, Pasco School District is expanding its career & technical education offerings—one of the goals of Metallica’s @allwithinmyhandsfoundation, which provides scholarships for CTE training after high school through the Metallica Scholars Initiative.

The civil engineering team at Knutzen Engineering successfully suggested another Easter egg for the project—the school’s address, 6091 Burns Road, reflects the voting percentage (60.91%) that passed the bond allowing this school to come to life—a fitting reminder of the community’s support for public education and investing in the next generation.

The ribbon is cut, and before the week is over, ONE Spokane Stadium will host its first high school sports games!! Congratulations to @spokaneschools and @onespokanestadium, and the many exceptional people whose labor made this day possible. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: grateful to be part of this team.

Today, we’re saying “be seeing you” to Jena, who is leaving SPVV to focus on her company N is for Nature Play, where she offers workshops and courses to help families and educators learn to create sensory-rich natural play and learning experiences tailored to their children. While we’re going to miss Jena and her exceptional talents, we’re so proud of her as she takes this new step in her career journey and continues to pursue her passion. Congrats & best wishes, Jena—you are a treasure!

Carla Olman Peperzak Middle School, named for Spok

Carla Olman Peperzak Middle School, named for Spokane resident and Holocaust survivor Carla Olman Peperzak, welcomed its first students yesterday. Uniquely situated on the South Hill, Peperzak’s location, site, and building design provide the school with incredible views to the south, framing the Palouse and Ponderosa Pine forests on the northern margin of the rolling hills. To both blend with the surrounding landscape and meet Spokane Public Schools’ sustainability goals, the landscape design features drought-tolerant plantings, low-mow grasses, and gabion baskets to evoke the exposed basalt escarpments found on the Palouse.

Guided by the principle that learning can happen anywhere, the landscape design includes two courtyards where students can gather and classes can meet outside. A new sensory courtyard includes elements to help in the special needs population, with tactile areas comprised of different landscape and paving materials, two porch swings selected to enhance vestibular and propriocentric development; and a teaching and learning courtyard with outdoor learning stairs, which sit on “the front door to the Palouse.”

It’s been an honor to be part of the great team that brought this new building to life after the loss of the previous building to a fire in 2021. It’s a pretty big deal that Spokane’s City Lin

It’s a pretty big deal that Spokane’s City Line is the 1st in the U.S. that is zero emission / carbon footprint. Additionally, all bus fare throughout Washington State will be free to people 18 and younger.
A lot of people made this project possible, and SPVV was honored to work with the Downtown Spokane Partnership to develop rendered concepts of the City Line along First Avenue early on.
